We knew going in to the meet last night that it’d be a rough night for many reasons. It was.

I appreciate those of you who were in attendance and hung in there as we navigated the weather delay. It is good that we were able to make it through all the heats and events. The exciting men’s 15-18 relay finish was worth the wait. The meet actually ended earlier than it was scheduled to because so many swimmers from both clubs left thereby significantly reducing the number of heats in many events.

For those of you who may not be aware, the TSA rules state that a meet is not “official” until all events are scored through breaststroke. If the meet had to be postponed before that time then we would be forced to come back to finish the meet or forfeit. Nobody wants to do that and some can’t, which makes it incredibly challenging to redo events and relays. I asked that we switch to main events only in attempt to make it through breaststroke before resuming the exhibition heats where we left off. We were successful in that effort and after a weather delay resumed, and completed, all the heats and events as planned. I know some of you wanted the meet to be cancelled or postponed, even after it was considered official, but the goal was to give swimmers the opportunity to swim.

We knew going in to the meet that over 1/3 of our roster wasn’t going to be in attendance including many swimmers who typically swim in heat one and on relays. We knew going in that we were missing multiple relays and most of some age groups. There was nothing that could be done to change that. The final score, 205 Riverwood to 304 BHR is what I expected. That is not a reflection of the swimmers in attendance last night. There were some awesome swims and it was good to see the continued excitement and support for teammates despite the challenging conditions (weather and ensuing chaos)

Based on the results entered in Swimtopia there were no pool or team records last night.

Double winner: Ford Teague

Triple Winners: Mariana Fuentes, Chelsea Cotham, Elijah Hammons, and Raston Sharron

We’re back home next week vs Springdale then travel to a large SCM (Short Course Meters) pool at Bedford to finish the regular season. These are divisional meets that will decide the division championship. I encourage you to find a way to have your swimmers in attendance at both these meets if at all possible.

As always, please be sure to enter your swimmer availability and sign up to volunteer for the next two meets by logging in to Swimtopia.
