April Employee Spotlight…
Today we are proud to highlight our fantastic Instructor Jennifer Skiles.
Jennifer has been an instructor with H & L Swim Academy since March 2018. She started swimming at 3 years old, when her daddy taught her in a muddy creek in Western PA. Her family belonged to a summer swimming program which enabled her to swim and dive from sun up to sun down every summer. Once she turned 14, she was asked to join the Red Cross Swim Instructor and Lifeguard Program. She passed both with flying colors and taught swimming and guarded the pool for the next 10 summers.
As she attended college, Jennifer was involved in the Red Cross swimming programs teaching at the local YMCA as she also participated in her college’s club diving.
Her career and a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis kept Jennifer out of the pool for quite some time, but she met an amazing swimmer named Maureen, in 2008, who offered to retrain her to teach lessons again and she’s been in the water ever since.
She has had the honor of teaching swimmers from 0-70 years old, swimmers with great fears of the water, and swimmers with autism, blindness, deafness, and sensory integration disorder. Each swimmer learns in a different way and at his/her own pace, so Jennifer strives to find his/her best understanding to meet his/her best swimming potential and beyond.
Jennifer teaches group lessons on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. She is also happy to teach children in a private swim lesson setting.
See you at the pool!
